Posh PJ’s

I can’t begin to tell you how much I’ve enjoyed sewing these Carolyn pyjamas from Closet Core Patterns. There are some projects that just engulf you right from the very start and take you on a magical sewing journey and these are one such project. I’ve savoured every moment and really gained pleasure from taking things slowly and being fully absorbed in concentration. This is quite unusual for me as usually I really struggle with concentration because of my MS. This time I was really strict though with only going near my sewing room when I was properly rested and feeling well and then only sewing for short periods at a time.

Initially it was a little daunting looking at all the pattern pieces hubby had kindly cut out for me but then as I settled down and started working my way through the pattern booklet I was able to get my head around the project and really relax into it.

Firstly the fabric I was working with, (a light weight poly cotton gifted by Minerva) was an absolute delight, easy to work with and so wonderfully soft, and then the pattern was well written with plenty of sew alongs online to help at any point if I needed assistance.

I wanted the insides to be just as smart as the outsides so I opted for French seams throughout, extra work but definitely worth the effort, as I smile each time I put them on.

I altered the pattern to suit my seated frame. Lengthened the length of the legs and also the back rise and then on the shirt did a full bust adjustment and added extra width around the tummy. I think I mostly succeeded with my pattern matching but wish I’d thought about the cuffs! Never mind I’ll get the next pair I make spot on.

I found my piping foot on the sewing machine invaluable and also used my zipper foot for sewing in the ditch when that was required. I do have a special foot for that, but realised the zipper foot gave better results, possibly because of all the curved edges.

I chose to purchase my piping, (simply because it worked out cheaper) but I’ve made piping in the past and it’s really not that difficult.

I love the professional result piping gives to a project, it really elevates it from plain and ordinary to something special.

I have to say now I’m finished I’m so proud of the pyjamas. They are incredibly comfy and look just as good as I hoped they would. I will definitely be making more in the future.
