Tatb Indigo Dress

I’ve had lots going on recently so this latest project unfortunately has had to take the back burner for a while so it’s felt really satisfying to finally be able to finish it.

This is the Indigo dress from Tilly and the Buttons. It’s an incredibly versatile pattern that can be made as a tunic or a dress and has different sleeve variations and waist options.

It probably would have been more practical for this time of year to have gone for the long sleeve version but I fell in love with the bell sleeves and the unusual finish of the ruffled seams so that’s the option I chose.

In hindsight this possibly wasn’t the best choice for my gorgeous fabric as it involved lots of tacking and gathering stitches which obviously then needed to be removed which is not ideal when working with Challis as it can leave pulls in the fabric. (Note to self, read the full pattern instructions before deciding on a make!)

If I had just gone for the normal rather than the ruffled seams this would have made life easier. Having said that I do love the effect and I’m really very pleased with how it turned out.

My fabric is from Minerva’s new exclusive viscose challis range and is called Paw Print Patrol. It’s such a gorgeous cornflower blue colour and very striking with its leopards and flowers.

This was my first time using a Tilly and the Buttons pattern and I was very impressed with the detailed instructions. I really liked the fact that this dress has no fasteners (a blessing on a day when my hands are numb). It also has great size pockets and plenty of room around the tummy which makes it incredibly comfortable to wear.

I made my usual full bust and sway back adjustments to the bodice and also lowered the bust darts. I hadn’t paid enough attention to the detail of the ruffle seam on the waist and had placed my pattern based on the stitching line so this resulted in having the leopards a little closer together than I had hoped, but I will try to remember this for next time. I may also lengthen the bodice slightly next time as well.

The challis was lovely to work with and it drapes so beautifully with this pattern. I used a walking foot and a microtex needle and finished my seams on the overlocker.

This definitely won’t be the last time I use this pattern and I know I’m going to get lots of wear out of this dress. I’ll wear it with boots and a cardigan during the winter and with sandals in the summer.

Thank you Minerva for gifting me this beautiful fabric it’s a shame that the weather was so dull on the day we took the photos, hopefully you can all still see just how lovely it is.
