I can finally bring you my review of a make I started way back in December. Unfortunately I’ve been quite poorly so although this has been finished for a while I wasn’t up to having the photos taken so better late than never, I would like to present the Edith from Dhurata Davies.
I just love the practicality of multiple garments from just one make. I can wear this as a dress, or individually as a top or a skirt.
Although it was initially designed with woven fabrics in mind, Dhurata did say it would be suitable for knits so I chose to use one of Minerva’s new Exclusive Loop Back French Terry’s called Rugged Trail. I think this fabric compliments the pattern perfectly, the Terry has just enough rigidity to make the rolled neck work but also a beautiful drape for the skirt. As with all the fabrics in this range the quality and vibrancy of the pattern is superb. The fabric is lovely and soft and a good weight whilst being both warm and breathable.
There are so many choices with the pattern, 3 necklines, 2 skirt lengths and 4 different sleeves to choose from not to mention the option of a dress or skirt and top. I chose the knee length skirt and then the rolled neck top with 3/4 sleeves. I love that the skirt has an elasticated waist so this makes it super comfortable to wear.
As usual Hubby cut out the pattern for me using a rotary cutter and we followed Dhurata’s advice and didn’t cut out the neck band on the bias as the stretch in the fabric meant this wasn’t necessary. I chose to stabilise the shoulder seams due to the stretch using stay tape and a ballpoint needle on my ordinary sewing machine. The majority of the rest of the construction was done on my overlocker with the hems finished on my cover stitch machine. This meant it was a very quick sew.
You can probably tell from the excited tone of this review that I am super happy with this make and can’t wait to start another one. (I have some more French Terry waiting).
The fabric is just so easy to wear and combined with this pattern I think I’ve found my go to autumn/winter solution. I’m definitely going to be trying it with some linen in the summer as well though.
