I enjoyed my last make of the Edith top and skirt from Dhurata Davies so much that I couldn’t wait to make another set. This time I chose Animal Song, a loop back French Terry from Minerva’s exclusive collection. I was very kindly gifted this fabric as part of their Ambassador program.
I love the vibrancy of the autumnal colours in this fabric and as with my last, it is just so lovely and soft to wear. I think this is the perfect smart casual outfit. Although I now have two sets from this pattern the outfits look completely different thanks to the very different designs and colours of the lovely fabrics.
The beauty of having a top and skirt is that I can mix and match as the mood takes me. I can dress down with jeans or wear the top with the skirt and it looks like a dress. I even get a different look by deciding whether to wear the top tucked into the skirt or left loose over the top.
Having already worn my last set a number of times I am pleased to confirm that this fabric launders beautifully and the colours don’t seem to fade at all.
I used exactly the same construction method as last time so please read my previous review as I don’t think there is any point in repeating myself.
I used an overlocker and cover stitch machine but you could definitely make this set just using a normal sewing machine with a ballpoint needle and a zig zag stitch.
I love this make and definitely think it is within the grasp of a novice sewer. The looped back French Terry is great to work with as it’s quite stable and isn’t as slippy as a thinner jersey so definitely a good one to start with if you’re just beginning to sew with knits. It also comes together quickly which is always great when you’re first starting out.
It’s also perfect for the wheelchair as the skirt doesn’t get in the way of my wheels and there are no fiddly buttons or zips to deal with, I also love the comfort factor of the elasticated waist.
If you haven’t already tried the Loop back French Terry or The Edith top and skirt then I can highly recommend both. It’s not very often that I will remake a pattern so soon after the first as I enjoy variety, so I suppose that in itself speaks volumes.
