So nice I made them twice – more Parker Ponte Pants

You know a make has been a success when you realise that you wear it a lot. That’s the case with my Parker Ponte Pants from Style Arc which I made back in October.

I originally made them to wear as formal trousers, but they were so comfy that they ended up creeping into my everyday wardrobe.

So I’m sure you can imagine just how happy I was, when Minerva kindly gifted me some beautiful marl dark grey ponte fabric from their core range. I didn’t hesitate to pick my pattern, it had to be another pair of the Parker Pants.

The marl grey fabric is a lovely medium to heavy weight Ponte and it has just the right amount of stretch to ensure a comfortable fit. There are some beautiful colours in the range and I would highly recommend that you check them out. Ponte is a wonderful fabric to work with and it launders so well. My original trousers still look amazing even though they have been through the wash numerous times.

As before, I adapted the pattern to be suitable for my shape and wheelchair needs. I made my usual full tummy adjustment and then slightly raised the back so that the waistband sat higher and omitted the turn ups which gave me the extra leg length I needed. (Trousers look shorter when you are seated).

As usual hubby cut out my pattern from the fabric using a rotary cutter and then I sewed the majority of the project on my overlocker. I used my cover stitch machine for the topstitching on the faux pockets and then for the bottom hems. You could definitely make these trousers using a conventional sewing machine with a stretch needle and a zig zag stitch or you could try some of the new Gutermann stretch thread.

After I had made them I realised that they are almost a perfect match for the marl grey in my Minerva brushwork prints sweater (see a previous review for this). It was almost as if I had chosen it intentionally with the idea of making a matching outfit.

Once again, I’m so pleased with these trousers and I already know I’m going to get a lot of wear out of them. In fact, I’m a week late posting this review as I took them away on holiday with me. I can definitely testify that they are the most comfortable pair of trousers to wear, the elasticated waist is a god send and also very handily the fabric doesn’t crease easily. Perfect for everyday wear and just as perfect for travelling.

As I’ve mentioned before, it’s hard to get good photos of trousers when you’re sat in a wheelchair and also when they are made in a dark fabric so I hope you can see these ok.
