What is it they say about ‘best laid plans’….. it seems like such an awfully long time since my last post. Unfortunately I’ve been suffering with my health and had vision problems (thanks to a bout of Shingles) and then my world fell apart when my beloved Assistance Dog ‘Bonnie’ passed away, so sewing has taken a back seat. When I did start again, it had to be in very small sessions at a time.
I’m finally back and proud to show you my latest make. I had every intention of making a jumpsuit and I had lots of options for different easy close fittings for the back, but try as I may, It quickly became apparent that I wasn’t ever going to manage undressing and reluctantly had to adapt. In the end I went for the option of separates which means I can either tuck in the top or leave it loose. On the plus side though, I can now wear them individually so I’ve got far more versatility.
The pattern I’ve used is Butterick B6224. This is such a great pattern as it has the option of a jumpsuit with three different leg lengths making one more like a beach play suit and also a Kimono jacket. I chose to make the full length version.
The fabric I’ve used is the most gorgeous viscose challis from Minerva’s Exclusive range it’s called Avian Garden. It’s such a pretty dusky pink colour and then it’s adorned with beautiful trees, flowers and exotic birds. I have to say it’s the most beautiful fabric I’ve ever worked with, it’s just perfect for summer days. It was very kindly gifted to me by Minerva as part of their Ambassador program. The challis has such a great drape and will help keep me cool in the summer as it’s so breathable (an important consideration with MS as I’m very heat sensitive).
I pretty much followed the pattern but instead of joining the top and bottom parts together I put an elasticated waist in the trousers and hemmed the top. I also considerably shortened the zip in the back as the top on its own didn’t need the full length. I also omitted the tie waist belt.
I made my usual full bust and tummy adjustments, but apart from that I didn’t need to alter anything else. Hubby very kindly cut the fabric for me using a rotary cutter and then I used a microtex needle and a walking foot to sew the project.
It’s a lovely pattern to sew and easily within the grasp of a beginner.
I’m pleased that I’ve managed to find a workaround for this pattern as I love the end result and know I’ll be getting lots of wear out of this one.
The weather wasn’t kind the day we took the pictures so we had to come indoors and I felt the backdrop was taking away from the beautiful fabric so I’ve included some pictures with the background greyscaled.
