TATB Lyra Dress

I know, I’m late to the party, as practically everybody else has already made a Lyra dress, but here is my version made using Botanic Garlands viscose challis from Minerva’s exclusive collection. (I was very kindly gifted the fabric as part of Minerva’s Ambassador program).

I absolutely love this print, it reminds me of beautiful cottage Gardens, the flowers look so pretty against the mushroom coloured background. I have to confess though, that I wish the print was the other way around as I would have loved the flowers to be vertical rather than horizontal. I did consider placing my pattern that way, but decided against it as I was concerned that it would affect the drape.

I knew when I first chose the Lyra dress that I would have to adapt it to be suitable for my shape and the wheelchair. I wanted to try and keep the main essence of the midi dress with the tiered sections, (which I had initially been drawn too) but knew they were going to be problematic for me.

I found if I shortened the bottom tier I could still keep the effect but then the fabric didn’t catch in my wheels. My initial fears about too much fabric being uncomfortable to sit on were thankfully unfounded, the dress is actually really comfortable to wear. I also made my usual full bust and tummy adjustments. Finally, I decided not to use the belt as I find anything tight across my tummy uncomfortable. I’m actually really happy with the end result.

As usual my hubby cut out everything for me using a rotary cutter and I used a microtex needle and a walking foot to sew the project.

Tilly’s instructions are really clear to follow and this was a very enjoyable make. The completion of the dress coincided with an improvement in the weather so I can see it getting lots of wear over the coming weeks.
