MN Jarrah Sweater

Chilly days call for a snuggly sweater and this make comes just in time for the change in weather. The gorgeous rope textured stretch knit is from Minerva’s core range and is so soft that I have to admit I didn’t want to stop stroking it when I first opened the package. I love that it looks just like it has been hand knitted.
I chose to pair the fabric with the Jarrah sweater from Megan Nielsen. It’s such an wonderful pattern with lots of variations. I went for view C which has a tie front but also included the funnel neck from view D. I felt the tie just added something a little more interesting than the normal waistband.
Quite unusually for me I just went for a straight size without needing to make any adjustments. The jumper is meant to have a loose fit with lovely drop sleeves. I could have shortened the length of the sleeves but decided to leave them longer (as the designer intended) as I felt it helped with the snuggly feel.
The length is just perfect for the wheelchair as it covers my back but doesn’t wrinkle up underneath me which can sometimes be the case with longer jumpers.
As usual hubby kindly cut out the pattern for me using a rotary cutter. The front is cut in a single layer due to the ties, the back is cut on the fold.
This is a really quick make especially if you use an overlocker as I did. I finished the hem on the cover stitch machine. There is a helpful section to show how to sew the ties and make a mitred corner which I did. I found stay tape really useful for holding down the edges of the hem around the loop while I cover stitched them. I just used normal clips for the rest of the hem as I’m a bit of a miser and didn’t want to waste my stay tape. The tape will dissolve when the jumper is washed.
I really love the finished jumper and I know I’ll get lots of wear out of it, I’m already eyeing up my stash so that I can make some more.

  1. Looks so warm and incredibly soft! In the fall and winter all I wear are sweaters and hoodies and usually have a warm blanket or two on me whenever we go out. Once I get cold it takes forever to get warm again.

    1. I know what you mean, I’m the same. I’ve got a fleece leg cover that looks like a sleeping bag that I use in the winter.
      You can’t beat a snuggly sweater😁
