Simplicity 1805

I’m back making more items for my Autumn wardrobe. I’ve had this medium/heavy weight jersey in my stash for a while now and am so pleased to finally get around to using it and possibly even more pleased to get the opportunity to actually wear it. I absolutely love the colour combinations in this fabric (and so did my friend) so I bought enough for both of us. Now I’ve made mine I really must make a start on hers.

I chose Simplicity 1805 for my top which is a really great pattern with 6 variations. I opted for view D which has raglan sleeves and a gathered neckline. I was a little unsure whether my fabric would be too thick to successfully gather the neckline and cuffs but thankfully it behaved perfectly and I’m really happy with the result.

The neck and cuff have the same style binding which is made from a method I’ve not used before which is simply an interfaced piece of jersey folded over the edges and stitched down in a single layer without a fold on the reverse or being cover-stitched. This method obviously wouldn’t work for a woven fabric but for my jersey it worked very successfully.

I looked at the finished garment measurements and decided to size down a size when I did my tissue fitting and I’m so pleased that I did. The top fits really comfortably without being too big or too tight and the raglan sleeves and gathered neckline make it more interesting than a standard tee.

Wheelchair considerations.

1) This is a pullover top without fastening so nice and easy to get on and off

2) Being jersey the top is comfortable to wear

3) The neckline is high and fits snuggly so perfect for a seated position

4) The sleeves are a practical length and not loose so nothing to get caught in wheels or on joysticks.

If you would like to try this pattern I have a 10% discount code for you which you can use on ANYTHING on the Minerva website ‘MSS243YC’. (I will receive a small commission from any order you place so would be very grateful if you use the code).
