Minerva Pippa Top

In the middle of summer last year, I was lucky enough to be able to pattern test the new Pippa Top pattern from Minerva. (The photos were taken back then).

The pattern is launching today, so I’m very happy to finally be able to share my version with you. It’s such a pretty, feminine design and incredibly comfortable to wear. The pattern features a flattering V-neckline (which isn’t too low for my wheelchair), 3/4-length sleeves with gentle gathering at the sleeve head, an empire waistline, and a ruffled hem. It’s one of those tops that feels both relaxed and special at the same time, making it perfect for everyday wear or for slightly dressier occasions.

For my version, I used Minerva Exclusive Recycled Brushed ITY stretch knit fabric in a beautiful multicoloured print called Dashing Dance. This version is the pastel colourway; it also comes in a mono version. The fabric is incredibly soft with a slight brushed finish. The ITY has lots of stretch and a lovely drape, which works really well with the gathered waist and ruffle detail, helping the shape fall nicely without feeling bulky.

You would think with all the stretch that this fabric would be difficult to sew with, but I didn’t find this to be the case. Even with the gathering at the sleeves, waistline, and hem, it handled really well on the machine.

One detail I particularly enjoyed making (which I’ve never tried before) was the gathered sleeve head. The gentle puff gives the sleeve a lovely soft shape and adds to the feminine feel of the design without being too dramatic. It’s a little feature, but it really elevates the overall look of the top.

I found the fit very comfortable thanks to the relaxed shaping and the empire waist seam; the stretch in my fabric also helps with the comfort factor. The instructions are clear and well written, making this an enjoyable project from start to finish. There is now also a sew-along to follow if you want extra guidance.

Overall, the Pippa Top is a lovely pattern to both sew and wear. The design details make it feel special while still being practical and comfortable for everyday use. I’m really pleased with how my version turned out in this beautiful ITY jersey.

Happy sewing!
